Uses:

Selenium dioxide is mainly used in manganese electrolysis industry, each production of one tonne of manganese electrolysis requires about 1 kg of selenium dioxide (slightly different processes), manganese electrolysis industry accounted for about 80% of the amount of selenium dioxide. Secondly, it is used in the production of sodium selenite in the feed industry, and now it is also used as the raw material of foliar selenium fertiliser for selenium-containing crops in the agro-industry. Other uses: analytical, precipitation of zirconium, hafnium. Determination of alkaloids. Oxidising agent. Manufacture of other selenium compounds and high purity selenium. Catalyst.

1、Used in the manufacture of high purity selenium and other selenium compounds, also oxidising agent and catalyst for organic synthesis of drugs.

2、Used as special reagent for plant alkali, also used for precipitation of zirconium, hafnium and preparation of selenium compounds.

3、It is used as oxidant, catalyst, chemical reagent of organic compounds and raw material for manufacturing various inorganic selenium compounds. Also used in photocopiers, rectifiers and so on.

4、Manufacture of other selenium compounds, alkaloid detection, oxidant. React with ammonia to generate nitrogen and selenium, in alcohol solution to generate ethylammonium selenite [NH₄(C₂H5)SeO₃], with hydrazine to generate nitrogen and black amorphous selenium, with hydroxylamine hydrochloride to generate nitrogen and reddish-brown amorphous selenium, and with nitric acid to generate selenious acid.
